Galveston County Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) Scott Tafuri participated in today’s panel discussion on hurricane preparedness hosted by the League City Chamber of Commerce and moderated by KHOU11 meteorologist Chita Craft.
Scott Tafuri stressed the importance of making a plan, building a kit, and staying informed. EMC for League City Ryan Edghill also expressed that these plans should be a physical written document not just a “discussion”. The kit should include at MINIMUM three days worth of supplies, but recommends for longer lasting kits (two weeks) to be made if possible. These kits are not just useful for hurricane season, but can be useful in the County’s push for all-hazard preparedness. Many items in a kit can be used for a variety of hazards the county has faced, including the winter storm that left many without power.
President of Rainbow International Restoration Tony Kott spoke on the importance of insurance audits and ensuring that you are identifying any gaps in your insurance before a storm to avoid any unwelcome surprises. Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and National Flood Insurance Program can provide you with some tools to fill gaps that may not be covered in your homeowners insurance.
