On Day 2 of Gulf Coast Rip Current and Beach Hazard Awareness Week, we will give you some tips on how to spot a rip current.
Tips to Spot a #RipCurrent: Look at the water texture, color, and movement. Rip currents are often found in areas where waves are *not* breaking. The flat water located between breaking waves is the rip current flowing away from the beach out to sea.
MYTH: You don’t have to worry about #RipCurrents if you don’t see any when you enter the water.
FACT: Rip currents are easier to identify from an elevated point (lifeguard stand, dune line, beach access point).
