Texas Parks and Wildlife will conduct prescribed burns on the beachside of Galveston Island State Park during April and May. Prescribed burns are a management tool used to restore forest and prairie habitats that were periodically burned by natural fires.
During the burn, you may see smoke in your neighborhood or nearby roads. We caution you to reduce your speed and use your low-beam headlights when smoke is present.
Trained professionals will determine the days for the prescribed burns based on weather conditions.
