Thank you for your interest in the Galveston County CERT Academy in April 2017. This academy will be held at a location to be announced in the Bayside area of Galveston County.
The academy is a 24 hour course of instruction, and you must attend all class time to complete and be eligible for graduation. Some absences can be made up during the academy, other absences may need to be made up in another academy. The dates and times of this academy will be June 13,14,15,20,21, and 22 from 6:30pm-10pm each night. Then on Saturday, June 24th from 9am-Noon, is the Disaster Drill and Graduation, if you miss on the 24th you will have to make this day up in another academy in order to graduate.
You will need to wear clothes that are comfortable and appropriate for doing skills that will require getting up and down on the ground. Please do no wear open toed shoes, boots are best but tennis shoes will do fine. We will provide you with protective equipment to wear for your safety.
You are welcome to bring snacks or drinks, please bring them in a cooler or container marked with your name. There may not be vending machines in the building. Please clean up your area and do not leave food and trash in the classroom.
We will be learning about team work, what CERT is, fire extinguishers, utilities safety, medical operations, light urban search and rescue, Incident Command System, terrorism and CERTs, and Psychology of the disaster. We also offer First aid and CPR classes to all who attend the academy free of cost but on different dates.
